No-exam life insurance
Eligibility for exam-free approval, how the evaluation process functions, and your options if you don't meet the criteria.
Numerous insurers now offer accelerated underwriting: qualified applicants within set age and amount parameters get approved based on the application, medication records, driving history and other data, without a medical checkup. Many approvals come back within a business day. Every quote on this site indicates whether the carrier wants an exam, might request one, or doesn't require one for that particular product.
What it changes
Skipping the exam doesn't bypass underwriting review. Your responses get checked, and policies issued based on inaccurate information can be disputed within two years. If the carrier needs to dig deeper, it can still require testing or lab work, and you decide whether to go forward.
Who tends to qualify
In general, those under about sixty, seeking amounts within a carrier's accelerated window, with a clean medical history and no current tobacco use for a year or more qualify. Some carriers will use recent blood work from a doctor's visit instead of requiring a new exam.
If testing becomes necessary, it's typically a fifteen- to thirty-minute session with a paramedic at your location in the Livermore region, completely free of charge. For healthy individuals, exam results sometimes lead to better tier placement, meaning an exam isn't always disadvantageous.
